Sheet music book ‘The Musical Tales of Ukraine’

The sheet music book ‘The Musical Tales of Ukraine’ is the first fantasy collection of Ukrainian melodies, combining music, legends, photographs and illustrations. The publication tells the story of Ukrainian culture through the language of sounds and images.

‘When I was at music school, I was usually given pieces by Bach, Beethoven, Chopin and Mozart to play, and almost nothing Ukrainian. When I asked my teacher why this was the case, she replied that there were very few Ukrainian works, as our composers had long been banned, and their works had been destroyed and burnt…

Even back then, I felt a desire to restore our cultural history and heritage and to create a project to promote them – both in Ukraine and beyond its borders.

That’s how the ‘Ukrainian Fantasy’ project came about, followed by the collection ‘The Musical Tales of Ukraine’. And our little dream is for this book to become available to educational institutions in Ukraine,’ says author and composer Mariia Yaremak.

The book contains:
– 20 pieces – from ‘Podolyanochka’ to ‘Shchedryk’ and ‘Plyve Kacha’;
– original works by Mariia Yaremak;
– illustrations by the artist Oleksandra Dikaya;
– photographs by Pavlo Yaremak;
– legends and stories associated with the melodies;
– a bilingual edition (in Ukrainian and English).

The book is intended for musicians, teachers, children, the Ukrainian diaspora and anyone who wishes to experience Ukrainian culture through music.
