The ‘Ukrainian Odyssey’ symphonic project
Release: October 2026
‘Ukrainian Odyssey’ is a grand musical tapestry comprising 12 compositions that takes the listener through the major eras of our history: from the magical Trypillia and Kyivan Rus’ to the Cossacks and the present-day reality of war.
Stuart Earl, composer for the series ‘Black Mirror’, has described Mariia Yaremak as one of the new voices of contemporary music:
‘This is not merely elegant and emotional music – it is a deeply personal manifesto that resonates with both the composer herself and the listener, skilfully embodying Ukrainian mythology and centuries-old traditions. Mariia is a truly original artist and a new voice in contemporary composition, one who is undoubtedly worth keeping a close eye on.”
The composer’s music has also been endorsed by Stephen Fry and ‘Harry Potter’ editor Mick Odsley.
“The film industry is currently on the lookout for new scripts, and Ukrainian mythology is a source that could inspire films on a par with ‘Harry Potter’,” says the project’s creator, Mariia Yaremak.
The project features:
– 12 symphonic compositions that weave together a single narrative journey;
– a combination of a large symphony orchestra and choir with the authentic sounds of the bandura, cimbalom and trembita;
– mentoring support from Hollywood masters, including composers for the Star Wars, World of Warcraft and League of Legends games, and the TV series ‘Black Mirror’;
– support from legendary actor Stephen Fry and ‘Harry Potter’ editor Mick Odsley;
– 12 music videos visualising each stage of the journey.
The project is being implemented with the support of the Ukrainian Cultural Foundation and aims to create a globally recognisable brand of Ukrainian epic sound.
