The ‘Ukrainian Fantasy’ concert at the Solomiya Krushelnytska Museum
Role: composer, arranger, pianist
This event was an exceptionally symbolic and magical part of the ‘Ukrainian Fantasy’ project. The performance at the home of the world-renowned singer Solomiya Krushelnytska, where she lived, composed and taught, lent the evening special significance, as Solomiya herself had tirelessly promoted Ukrainian culture around the world in her day.
The organisers tracked down the original recipe for the biscuits that Solomiya Krushelnytska used to bake during her lifetime and treated guests to her favourite wine. This created a unique sense of being transported back to the atmosphere of that era.
The performance took place by candlelight, accompanied by a string quartet (Maryna Hromadska, Bohdana Kalichak, Anna Bura and Olena Maiboroda). It seemed as though the museum’s walls were coming to life with the sounds of ancient melodies, reimagined in a fantasy style.
The event attracted enormous interest: the audience filled every available seat in the museum, whilst many listened to the concert standing, both in the main room and in the adjoining rooms.
The event took place at the invitation of the Institute of Cultural Strategy and Marta Bilskaya (as part of the Jazz Bez festival) and with the active support of the museum team.
