‘Earth’ – a new soundtrack for Oleksandr Dovzhenko’s silent film

Role: orchestrator, music editor

Location: Academy Museum of Motion Pictures, Los Angeles, USA

Mariia Yaremak worked as a music editor and orchestrator on the new soundtrack for “Earth” (1930), the cult silent film by Ukrainian director Oleksandr Dovzhenko. The soundtrack was composed by the award-winning composer Luke Corradine (UFACE), and the premiere took place at the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures in Los Angeles, California.

“Earth” is a poetic film depicting the early days of collectivisation in the USSR. The film was banned by the Soviet authorities just nine days after its release. For decades, only a censored version of the film was distributed worldwide.

The screening in Los Angeles marked the first showing of the restored version of the film outside Europe, accompanied by a live performance of newly composed music. The event served as a cinematic and musical tribute to artistic resistance and cultural heritage.
